find the distance between the points

Find the distance d(A,B) between the points A(-1,0) and B(4,3). I graphed it to be 5, I'm asking to see if my answer is right. thanks for any help given.

Distance between two points is

Now we can solve it from the graph.

Draw the coordinate plane.

Plot the A , B points.

Connect the plotted ponts.

It would be distance between AB.

To form a right angle triangle move right to 5 units then move up to 3 units.

Then plot the point C (4 , 0).

ABC is right angle triangle

From the Pythagoras theorem

AB^2 = BC^2 + CA^2

AB^2 = 3^2 + 5^2

AB^2 = 9 + 25

AB^2 = 34

Apply squre root on each side.
