The polynomial is P(x) = 4x3 - 3x2 + 5.

P(- 1/2) = 4(- 1/2)3 - 3(- 1/2)2 + 5

= 4(- 1/8) - 3(1/4) + 5

= - 4/8 - 3/4 + 5

= (- 4 - 6 + 40)/8

= (- 10 + 40)/8

= 30/8

= 15/4.

Therefore, P(- 1/2) = 15/4.
