If a and b are non zero real numbers, the graph y = a tan (bx) has the characteristics.

  • The period is π/|b|
  •  There are vertical asymptotes at odd multiples of π/2|b|

The graph of y = 8 tan (πx)

a = 8, b = π

  Vertical asymptotes at x = (2n + 1)π/2|π|

x = (2n + 1)π/2π

x = (2n + 1)/2

x = 1/2 + n, where n is any integer.

For n = 1

x = 1/2 + 1 = 3/2

For n = 2

x = 1/2 + 2 = 5/2.
