Substitution method

The system of equations are 2x + 4y = 8 and - 2x - 2y = - 6.

Simplify the above two equations, divide each side by 2.

Now the equations are x + 2y = 4 ---> (1)

 - x - y = - 3 ---> (2)

Solve the first equation for x since the coefficient of x is 1.

 x = 4 - 2y

Find the value of y by substituting 4 - 2y for x in the second equation.

- (4 - 2y) - y = - 3

- 4 + 2y - y = - 3

- 4 + y = - 3

y = - 3 + 4

y = 1

Substitute 1 for y in either equation to find the value of x.

First equation : x + 2y = 4.

x + 2(1) = 4

x = 4 - 2

x = 2

Solution (x, y) = (2, 1)

Option c is correct.
