How is the rate of reaction affected by the temperature at which the reaction is performed? Do reactions proceed more slowly or more rapidly when the temperature is raised? Why?

Change in temperature affects the rate of reaction.

As the temperature increases, the rate of reaction also increases.

Rate of reaction is doubled or tripled for every 10°C raise in temperature.

Explanation:

Particles can react only when they collide to form a different molecule.

If the temperature of the reaction is increased, the particles will acquire energy and collide easily.

Increasing the number of collision will increase the number of effective collision, so the reaction proceeds faster.

Hence, as the temperature increases, the rate of reaction also increases.
