observations for reactions of metallic zinc: which ones are oxidized? For example since is oxidized by H+ from sulfuric acid

With 1M sulfuric acid:

with 1 M MgSO4

With 1 M CuSO4

with 1 M Na2SO4

observations for reactions of metallic copper:

With 1 M sulfuric acid

with 1 M MgSO4

with 1 M ZnSO4

with 1 M Na2SO4

observations for reactions of metallic magnesium :

With 1 M sulfuric acid

with 1 M MgSO4

with 1 M ZnSO4

with 1 M Na2SO4

Write balanced equations for any reactions that occurred:

Reaction of Zinc metal with different compounds.

(1).

Reaction of metallic Zinc with Sulfuric acid.

Chemical reaction : image.

Here Zn oxidizes from 0 to +2.

H2 reduces from +1 to 0.

Hence hydrogen oxidizes Zinc metal.

(2)

Reaction of metallic Zinc with Magnesium sulphate.

Chemical reaction : image.

Since Magnesium is more reactive than Zinc, it holds the sulphate ion.

Hence Zinc metal is not oxidized.

(3).

Reaction of metallic Zinc with Copper sulphate.

Chemical reaction : image.

Here Zinc (Zn) oxidizes from 0 to +2.

Copper (Cu) reduces from +2 to 0.

Hence Copper oxidizes Zinc metal.

(4).

Reaction of metallic Zinc with Sodium sulphate.

Chemical reaction : image.

Here Zinc (Zn) oxidizes from 0 to +2.

Sodium reduces from +1 to 0.

Hence sodium oxidizes Zinc metal.

Solution :

Reaction of metallic Zinc with Sulfuric acid oxidizes Zinc metal.

Reaction of metallic Zinc with Magnesium sulphate does not oxidizes Zinc metal.

Reaction of metallic Zinc with Copper sulphate oxidizes Zinc metal.

Reaction of metallic Zinc with Sodium sulphate oxidizes Zinc metal.

Reaction of Copper metal with different compounds.

(1).

Reaction of metallic Copper with Sulfuric acid.

Chemical reaction : image.

Copper does not react with dilute sulfuric acid.

Copper only reacts with concentrated sulfuric acid.

Hence Copper metal is not oxidised.

(2)

Reaction of metallic Copper with Magnesium sulphate.

Chemical reaction : image.

Since Magnesium is more reactive than copper, it holds the sulphate ion.

Hence copper metal is not oxidized.

(3).

Reaction of metallic Copper with Zinc sulphate.

Chemical reaction : image.

Since Zinc is more reactive than copper, it holds the sulphate ion.

Hence copper metal is not oxidized.

(4).

Reaction of metallic Copper with Sodium sulphate.

Chemical reaction : image.

Since is sodium more reactive than copper, it holds the sulphate ion.

Hence copper metal is not oxidized.

Solution :

Reaction of metallic Copper with Sulfuric acid does not oxidizes copper metal.

Reaction of metallic Copper with Magnesium sulphate does not oxidizes copper metal.

Reaction of metallic Copper with Zinc sulphate does not oxidizes copper metal.

Reaction of metallic Copper with sodium sulphate does not oxidizes copper metal.
