Jacksonville, Florida, and Charlotte, North Carolina, lie approximately on the same meridian. Jacksonville has a latitude of 30.3°N, and Charlotte has a latitude of 35.2°N. Find the distance between these two cities. (The radius of the earth is 3960 mi. Round your answer to the nearest mile.)

The two cities lie on same meridian of the circle.

Find the circumference of the circle.

Radius of the earth is image.

The Jacksonville has a latitude of image.

The Charlotte has a latitude of image.

Latitude angle is the angle measured from equator to the city.

So the angle between two cities is the difference between two latitude angles.

Difference of the latitude: image.

Find the distance between the two cities.

Meridian distance on the sphere: image.
