The equation is x2 - 10x = 24.

To change the expression into a perfect square trinomial add (half the x coefficient)² to each side of the expression.

 Here x coefficient = - 10. so, (half the x coefficient)² = (- 10/2)2= 25.

Add 25 to each side.

x2 - 10x + 25 = 24 + 25

(x - 5)2 = 49

(x - 5)2 = (± 7)2

x - 5 = ± 7

x = 5 + 7 and x = 5 - 7

x = 12 and x = - 2.

The solutions are x = 12 and x = - 2.
