f(x)=4x^5+2x^4-3x-4

Generally a polynomial is an expression consisting of variables and coefficients that involves only the operations of addition, multiplication, subtraction and non-negative integer exponents.

The general form of the polynomial is a_n x^n + a_{n-1}x^{n-1} + \dotsb + a_2 x^2 + a_1 x + a_0,

where  a_0, \ldots, a_n are numbers.

The degree of the polynomial is the highest power of the variable.

Highest power of the given polynomial is 5.

So, f(x) is a 5th degree polynomial.

A 5th degree polynomial is also known as quintic function.
