The equation is y = - x2 + 4x - 4.

To find the two roots, substitute y = 0 in the original equation.

0 = - x2 + 4x - 4

0 = - [x2 - 2(2)(x) + 22]

Apply Perfect Square Trinomial : (u2 - 2uv + v2) = (u - v)2.

0 = (x - 2)2

0 = (x - 2)

x = 2.

The roots are 2 and 2.
