y = mx
When x= 4→y=4m
and when y=−2→x= −2/m
Hence the triangle is right agnled triangle forme by x= 4 y=−2 and y= mx
ith corners at (−2/m, −2), (4, 4m) (4, −2)
Base ={4−(−2/m)=4+2/m
and height = 4m−(−2)=4m +2
Hence area= (Base×hheight)/2 ={(4+2/m)×(4m+2)}/2
=8m+8+2/m
→8m+8+2/m =16
or 8m²−8m+2=0
i.e. 4m²−4m+1=0 or (2m−1)²=0 →m=1/2.
