4/x - x/2 = 1

Multiply each side by x .

4 - x²/2 = x

Now multiply each side by 2 .

8 - x² = 2x

Shift all terms to right hand side .

0 = 2x +  x² -8

 x² +2x - 8 = 0

 x² +4x -2x - 8 =0

x(x+4) -2(x+4) =0

(x+4)(x-2) = 0

(x+4) = 0 or (x-2) = 0

x = -4   or   x =2

So the solutions for rational equation is x = -4 , 2
