Elimination method

5x+y = 0 ------------> (1)

5x+2y = 30 ----------> (2)

To eliminate the x value subtract equation (2) from equation (1).

5x+y = 0

5x+2y = 30

(-)  (-)   (-)

_________

-y = -30

Cancel the signs to each side.

y = 30

Substitute the y value in (1).

5x+30 = 0

Subtract 30 from each side.

5x+30-30 = 0-30

5x = -30

Divide to each side by 5.

5x/5 = -30/5

x = -6

Solution of given equations x = -6 and y = 30.
