Direct variation is y = kx

Given numbers form a ratio expressed as y/x = 8/3

To find y when x = 45

We set up anoter ratio is y/45.

By the definition both the ratios are equal.

8/3 = y/45

Cross multiplication is 45*8 = 3y

Divide to each side by 3.

45*8/3 = 3y/3

15*8 = y

y = 120
