I need to know the steps to take to find the domain.

f(x) = 7x+4

y = 7x+4

If x = 0 ⇒ y = 4

If  x = 1 ⇒ y = 11

If x = -1 ⇒ y = -3

If x = 0,1,-1.. substitute in given equation then set of coordinate pair would be

y = 4,11,-3...

We know that domain of function is x values.

Range of the function is y values.

Domain set is {0,1,-1} and range set is {4,11,-3}.

The linear function is f (x ) = 7x + 4.

Equation is y = 7x + 4

  • Make the table of values to find ordered pairs that satisfy the equation.

Choose values for x and find the corresponding values for y.

x

y = 7x + 4

(x, y )

-1

y = 7(-1) + 4 = -3

(-1,-3)

0

y = 7(0) + 4 = 4

(0, 4)

1

y = 7(1) + 4 = 11

(1  ,11)

-2

y = 7(-2) + 4 = -10

(-2,-10)

2

y = 7(2) + 4 = 18

(2,18)

  • Graph

Draw a coordinate plane.

Plot the coordinate points.

Then sketch the graph, connecting the points with a line.

graph the equation x=y^2

Since x can be any real number, there is an infinite number of ordered pairs that can be graphed. All of them lie on the line shown.

Notice that every real number is the x - coordinate of some point on the line.

Also, every real number is the y - coordinate of some point on the line.

So, the domain and range are both all real numbers, and the relation is continuous.

The function is f(x) = 7x + 4.

Definition

Domain: The domain of a function is the set of all possible input values (often the "x" variable), which produce a valid output from a particular function. It is the set of all real numbers for which a function is mathematically defined.

Domain of a function f(x) is set of those values of x which will make the function mathematically legal or correct..certain operations like division by zero , square root of a negative number do not exist in real maths.

1. Domain excludes x - values that result in division by zero.

2. Domain excludes x - values that result in even roots of negative numbers.

The function f(x) = 7x + 4 is a linear function or line equation.There are no rational or radical expressions, so there is nothing that will restrict the domain. Any real number can be used for x to get a meaningful output.

The domain of f(x) = 7x + 4 is all real numbers.
