Elimination method

Given equations 3x+5y = 118 ---> (1)

5x+5y = 130 ---> (2)

To eliminate the y value subtract the equation (1)from (2).

5x+5y = 130

3x+5y = 118

______________

2x = 12

Divide to each side by 2.

x = 6

Substitute the x value in (1).

18+5y = 118

Subtract 18 from each side.

5y = 100

Divide to each side by 5.

y = 20

Solution x = 6, y = 20.
