ACIDITY  The acidity of a substance is determined by its concentration of H+ ions. Because the H+ \ \ concentration of substances can vary by several orders of magnitude, the logarithmic pH scale is used to indicate \ \ acidity. pH can be calculated by pH = –log [H+], where [H+] is the concentration of H+ ions in moles per liter.
