A). The expression is 12y + y.

Apply commutative property of addition : a + b = b + a.

= y + 12y

The equivalent expression is y + 12y.

B). The expression is 5/6.

Apply Multiplicative Identity property : a · 1 = a or 1 · a = a.

= (5/6) · 1

= (5/6) / (4/4)            (From the given data, use 4/4 for 1)

= (5 * 4)/(6 * 4)

Multiply 5 and 4 in the numerator.

= 20/(6 * 4).

Multiply 6 and 4 in the denominator.

= 20/24

The equivalent expression is 20/24.
