Let two numbers is x, y

The sum of two numbers is 1174.

i.e. x + y = 1174------------->(1)

And their difference is -672.

i.e. x - y = -672-------------->(2)

Add equation(1) and equation(2)

So, (x + y)+(x - y) = 1174 + (-672)

2x = 502.

Divide each side by 2.

x = 251.

Substitute x = 251 in the equation(1).

251 + y = 1174

Subtract 251 from each side.

y = 923.

Therefore x = 251, and y = 923.
