{(a, b), (c, d), (a, c)}

In every coordinate pair x  represents first half value and represents second half value.

Relation:

A relation is simply set of orderd pairs.

Function:

A function is a set of orderd pairs in which each x element has only one y element associated with it.

In this case a has two images b and c.

Therfore {(a,b), (c,d), (a,c)} is not a function.

A  function  is a special type of relation in which each element of the domain is paired with exactly one element of the range.

The relation is not a function because the a in the domain is paired with both b and c in the range.

The relation is not a function.
