The expression is 5x - 3 < 7x + 7.

Add 3 to each side.

If a < b then a + c < b + c.

5x - 3 + 3 < 7x + 7 + 3

5x + 0 < 7x + 10

Subtract 7x from each side

If a < b then a - c < b - c.

5x  - 7x < 7x + 10 - 7x

-2x < 0 + 10

Divide each side by -2.

If a < b then a / (- c) > b / (- c).

-2x / -2 > 10 / -2

Cancel common terms.

x > -5.

The answer is x > -5.
