The radical is √(98).

First prime factorize the number 98.

98 = 1 * 2 * 7 * 7 = 2 * 72 .

⇒ √(98) = √(2 * 72)

Use the formula : √(a * b) = √a * √b.

= √2 * √(72)

= √2 * 7

= 7√2.

∴ √(98) = 7√2.

Compare 7√2 with mixed radical form a√b.

a = 7 and b = 2.
