Direct variation is y = kx

The given numbers form one ratio expressed as y/x = 6/30

To find x when y = 7

We set up ratio 7/x

By the definition both ratios are equal 6/30 =7/x

1/5 = 7/x

Divide to each side by 7.

(1/5)/7 = (7/x)7

1/35 =1/ x

x = 35
