The given system of equations are x + 4y = 3  ---------- (1)

                                                  3x + 12y = 5 ---------(2)

Rewrite the equations

Solve each equation for y .

Equation (1)                         Equation (2)

x + 4y = 3                             3x + 12y = 5

4y = 3 - x                             12y = 5 - 3x

y = 3/4 - x/4                         y = 5/12 - 3x/12

y = - x/4 + 3/4                      y =  - x/4 + 5/12

The above equations are in form of y = mx + c

Equation (1)                         Equation (2)

slope m = -1/4                     slope m =-1/4

y-intercept = 3/4                  y-intercept = 5/12

So the given system of equations has same slope and different y - intercepts.

Hence system of equations has no solutions .
