The equations are 5x - y = 1 and - 10x + 2y = 3

Write the equations in slope intercept form y = mx + b.

where m is slope and b is y intercept.

First equation 5x - y = 1

5x = 1 + y

y = 5x - 1

m = 5, b = - 1

Second equation  2y = 10x + 3

y = (10x/2) + 3/2

y = 5x + (3/2)

m = 5, b = 3/2

The two lines have equal slope.

We know that parallel lines slopes are equal.

5x - y = 1 and - 10x + 2y = 3 are parallel.
