1. graph the equation y = 360 - 50(x-4) notice that this is linear

a. how to determine a linear equation in the form y = ax + b from a graph or table
b. demonstrate that the eqaution found in part a is equivalent to y = 360 - 50(x-4)

2.graph the equation 3x + 2y = 9
notice that this is also linear

1) The equation y = 360 - 50(x - 4)

Simplify the equation y = 360 - 50x + 200

y = - 50x + 560

It is slope intercept form of a linear equation y = mx + b

where m is slope and b is y intercept.

Graph of y = 360 - 50(x - 4).

a) Determine the linear equation from a graph.

Graph :

graph for the equation - x - 2y = 8

It is the graph of of a line.

From the graph y intercept is 560.

Now the line equation y = mx + 560

Now find the slope of the line.

Slope (m) = (change in y)/(change in x) (or) m = rise /run

Observe the graph, Another point passing through the line is (1, 510).

It is from the y intercept 50 units down and 1 unit right.

m = - 50/1

Therefore, the line equation is y = - 50x + 560.

b) From the graph the two lines are equal.

2) The equation 3x + 2y = 9

Which is in general form of a linear equation ax + by = c.

To graph the above equation find the x and y intercepts.

Find the value of y intercept of the equation by substituting x = 0.

3(0) + 2y = 9

2y = 9

y = 9/2

Find the value of x intercept of the equation by substituting y = 0.

3x + 2(0) = 9

3x = 9

x = 9/3

x = 3

So the line passes through (0, 4.5) and (3, 0).

Graph

Draw the coordinate plane.

Plot the intercept points.

Connect the ploted points and it is represent the equation 3x + 2y = 9

a) Determine the linear equation from a graph.

Slope-intercept form of a linear equation y = mx + b

where m is slope and b is y intercept.

Graph :

graph for the equation - x - 2y = 8

It is the graph of of a line.

From the graph y intercept is (9/2).

Now the line equation y = mx + (9/2)

Now find the slope of the line.

Slope (m) = (change in y)/(change in x) (or) m = rise /run

Observe the graph, Another point passing through the line is (2, 1.5).

It is from the y intercept 3 units down and 2 units right.

m = - 3/2

Therefore, the line equation is y = - (3/2)x + (9/2)

Write the above equation  in the form ax + by = c.

2y + 3x = 9

b) From the graph the two lines are equal.
