The Function is F(x) = (1/2)x+4

Let us assume f(x) = y and solve x in terms of y.

y = (1/2)x + 4

Subtract 4 from each side.

y - 4 = (1/2)x

Multiply by 2 on each side.

2(y - 4) = x

Now interchange x and y.

2(x - 4) = y

Replace y by  image.

The inverse of the function is 2(x-4).

Draw the table for f(x) and image with different values of x.

x -5 0 10 20
f(x) 1.5 4 9 14
image -18 -8 12 32

Graph

Draw the coordinate plane.

Plot the above table

Connect the plotted points.

Therefore the inverse of the function F(x) = (1/2)x+4 is image.

Are you supposed to flip x and y on the inverse function.

Yes, we supposed to flip x and y.

General procedure of finding inverse functions

Start with the function

Replace f(x) by y if necessary

Solve for x in terms of y.

Interchange x and y.

Replace y with f -1(x) if the inverse is also a function.
