Right triangle one leg length  BC(a) = 21 inches

Right triangle another leg length AB(c)  = 28 inches

 From the diagram Pythagorean theorem : AC2 = AB2 + BC2

b2 = 282 + 212

b2 = 784 + 441

b2 = 1225

Take square root each side

b = 35.

The length of the hypotenuse of a right triangle  = 35 inches.

Pythagorean theorem: a2 + b2 = c2, where a = leg1, b = leg2, c = hypotenuse

substitute the known values

212 + 282 = c2

441 + 784 = c2

1225 = = c2

c = sqrt ( 1225) = 35
