The equation is 5/3(1/2x - 5) = 3x + 15

(Multiply each side by 3)

{5/3(1/2x - 5)} 3= 3(3x + 5)

5(1/2x - 5) = 3(3x + 5)

(Distribute 5 and 3)

5x/2 - 25 = 9x + 45

(Subtract 9x from each side, and add 25)

5x/2 - 25 - 9x + 25 = 9x + 45 - 9x + 25

5x/2 - 9x  = 70

(Take out common factor x)

x(5/2 - 9)  = 70

x(- 13/2)  = 70

(Multiply each side by -2/ 13)

{x(- 13/2)}(- 2/ 13)  = 70(- 2/ 13)

x = - 140 / 13

The solution is x = - 140 / 13.
