A block of mass 2.00 kg is held in equilibrium on an incline of angle θ = 60.0º by a horizontal force F as shown. The coefficient of static friction between the block and the incline is m = 0.300. Determine (a) the minimum value of F, and (b) the normal force exerted by the incline on the block.

Step 1:

(a)

The mass of the block is 2.00 kg.

Angle of Inclination image.

Coefficient of static friction is 0.300.

A Horizontal force image is applied to the block as shown below :

The force acting on the block at equilibrium :

From the above figure,

Horizontal force : image.

Vertical force : image.

Find minimum value of F.

Horizontal Force :

Substitute image in the equation (1).

The minimum value of F  is 18.47 N.

Step 2:

(b)

Substitute F = 18.47 N in image.

Normal force N is 25.795 N.

Solution :

(a) The minimum value of F is 18.47 N.

(b) Normal force N is 25.795 N.
