x^2 + 6x + 1   =   x^2 + 6x + 1 + 8 - 8

                      =  [ x^2 + 6x + 9 ] - 8

                      =  [ (x)^2 + 2(x)(3) + (3)^2 ] - 8

x^2 + 6x + 1   =  (x + 3)^2  - 8
