Given: \\ The coordinates of y is (4,-8). The midpoint of a line segment xy is (3, - 5) \\ Let the coordinates of x be (p,q) \\ Now, by the midpoint formula, we have: \\ ((p + 4)/2 , (q - 8)/2) = (3, -5) ....(1) \\ Comparing both sides of eq.(1), we have: \\ (p + 4)/2 = 3 \\ => p + 4 = 6 \\ => p = 6 - 4 \\ => p = 2 \\ And: \\ (q - 8)/2 = -5 \\ => q - 8 = -10 \\ => q = - 10 + 2 \\ => p = - 2 \\ Hence, the coordinates of x is (2, -2)
