STEP1

The equation is 20c+5=5c+65

According to subtraction property of equality:if a=b,than a-c=b-c

20c+5-5c=5c+65                   (Subtract 5c from both sides)

15c+5 =65                              (Subtract:20c-5c=15c)

15c+5-5=65-5                        (Subract 5 from each side)

15c=60                                    (Subtract: 65-5=60)

STEP 2

15C/15=60/15                        (Divide both sides by 15)

c=60/15                                   (Divide 15c by 15:15c/15=c)

c=4                                           (Divide 60 by 15:60/15=4)

STEP 3

To verify the solution, substitute c=4 in origina equation

20c + 5=5c+65→ 20(4)+5=5(4)+65

80+5=20+65                         (Multiply : 20×4=80 and 5×4 =20)

85=85                                     (Add: 80+5=85 and 20+65=85)

Compare the values, the equation is true.

Solution

The value of c= 4.
