The polynomial function f(x) = ax + b

Given the linear function f(x) = - 5x - 6

y =  - 5x - 6

Compare the equation in slope-intercept form y = mx + b, where m is slope and b is y-intercept.

slope = -5 and y-intercept is -6.

y-intercept is -6, so the line crosses the y-axis at (0, -6)

Using slope find the next point.

Slope = rise/run = 5/-1

Start at point (0, -6), move 5 units up and 1 unit left, then plot the point (-1, -1).

Draw a line through these points.
