Let the coordinates are (x₁, y₁) = (2, 7) and (x₂, y₂) = (1, - 4)

Distance = √[(x₂ - x₁)2  + (y₂ -  y₁)2 ]

Distance = √[ (1 - 2)2  + (- 4 -  7)2  ]

= √(1 + 121)

= √122

= 11.045

Distance is 11.05 units.
