Substitution method

2x+y = 8 ----------> (1)

y = x-7 -----------> (2)

From (2) substitute the y value in (1).

2x+x-7 = 8

3x-7 = 8

Add 7 to each side.

3x-7+7 = 8+7

3x = 15

Divide to each side by 3.

3x/3 = 15/3

x = 5

Substitue the x value in (2).

y = 5-7

y = -2

Solution x = 5,y = -2.
