Elimination method

Gven equations are 10x-8y = -2 ---------> (1)

9x+8y = 59 --------> (2)

To eliminate the y value, add the equations (1) and (2).

10x-8y = -2

9x+8y = 59

___________

19x = 57

Divide to each side by 19.

19x/19 = 57/19

x = 3

Substitute the x value in (1).

10*3-8y  = -2

30-8y = -2

Subtract 30 from each side.

30-30-8y = -2-30

-8y = -32

Divide to each side by negitive 8.

-8y/-8 = -32/-8

y = 4

Solution x =3 , y = 4.
