Let the length of the rectangle be l.

Let the width of the rectangle be w.

Width w = 40% of l = 40/100 * l = 0.4l.

Perimeter of the rectangle = 2(l + w )

2(l + 0.4l ) = 126

2(1.4l ) = 126

2.8l = 126

l = 126/2.8 = 45.

w = 0.4l = 0.4(45) = 18.

Therefore length and width of the rectangle are 45 units and 18 units respectively.
