1) The expression is |- 1.3 + - 5.2|

The product of two different signs is negative.

= |- 1.3 - 5.2|

(Subtract: - 1.3 - 5.2 = - 6.5)

= |- 6.5|

The absolute value of  |- 6.5| = 6.5

The simplification of |- 1.3 + - 5.2| is 6.5.

2) The expression is |4.2 - 3x| - 6.1

Substitute x = 2

= |4.2 - 3(2)| - 6.1

(Multiply: 3*2 = 6)

= |4.2 - 6| - 6.1

(Subtract: 4.2 - 6 = - 1.8)

= |- 1.8| - 6.1

The absolute value of = |- 1.8| = 1.8

=1.8 - 6.1

(Subtract: = 1.8 - 6.1 =  - 4.3)

= - 4.3

The simplification of |4.2 - 3x| - 6.1 is - 4.3.
