Elimination method

9x+5y = -143 --------> (1)

4x+y = -22 ----------> (2)

Multiply to each side of equation (2) by 5.

20x+5y = -110 ----------> (3)

To eliminate the y value subtract equation (3) from equation (1)

9x+5y = - 143

20x+5y = -110

(-) (-)      (+)

____________

-11x = -33

Divide to each side by negitive 11.

-11x/-11 = -33/-11

x = 3

Substitute the x value in (2).

4*3+y = -22

12+y = -22

Subtract 12 to each side.

-12+12+y = -22-12

y = -34

Solution of given system is x = 3, y = -34.
