The equation 20 = - 4 (f + 6) + 14

Distribute terms using distributive property: a(b + c) = ab + ac.

20 = (- 4)(f ) + (-4)(6) + 14

20 = - 4f  - 24 + 14

20 = - 4f  - 10

Add 10 to each side.

20 + 10 = - 4f  - 10 + 10

30 = - 4 + 0

Apply Identity Property or Zero Property of Addition: 0 + a = a.

30 = - 4f

Divide each side by negative 4.

30/(-4) = (-4f )/(-4)

-15/2 = f

Solution f  = - 15/2.
