Elimination method

Given 2x+3y = 1

Multiple to each side of above equation  by negitive 2.

-4x-6y = -2  ---> (1)

4x-5y = 13 ----> (2)

To eliminate the x variable add the equations (1) and (2).

-4x-6y = -2

4x-5y = 13

___________

  -11y = 11

Divide to each side by negitive 11.

-11y/-11 = 11/-11

y = -1

Substitute the y value in equation (2).

4x+5 = 13

Subtract 5 from each side.

4x+5-5 = 13-5

4x = 8

Divide to each side by 4.

4x/4 = 8/4

x = 2

Solution x = 2, y = -1.
