Graph the linear equation by using slope-intercept method :

The equation x + y = - 5.

Write the above equation in slope-intercept form y = mx + b, where m is slope and b is y-intercept.

Subtract x from each side.

x + y - x = - 5 - x

y = - x - 5

Slope : m = - 1 and y-intercept : b = - 5.

y-intercept is - 5, so the line crosses the y-axis at (0, - 5)

Using slope find the next point.

Slope = rise/run = - 1/1

Start at point (0, - 5), move 1 unit down (- 5 - 1= - 6) and 1 unit right (0 + 1 = 1), then plot the point (1, - 6).

Draw a line through these points.
