Substitution method

Given first equation y  = 9x - 1 ---> (1)

Second equation x + 2 = 17 ---> (2)

From (1) substitute the y  value in equation (2).

x + 2(9x - 1) = 17

x + 18x - 2 = 17

19x - 2 = 17

19x  = 19

x  = 19/19

x  = 1

Substitute the x  value in (1).

= 9 - 1

y  = 8

Solution x  = 1 and y  = 8.
