Given △ ABC ~△ DEF, solve for x and y

DE=9
EF=6
FD=x

AB=y
BC=8
CA=14

ABC, DEF are similar triangles.

From the properties of similar triangles .

Corresponding sides are all in the same proportion.

DE = 9

EF/BC = 6/8 = 3/4

EF/BC= 3/4

DE/AB = 3/4

9/AB = 3/4

AB = 9*4/3

AB = 12

FD/CA = 3/4

FD = CA*3/4

FD = 14*3/4

FD = 21/2

FD = 10.5

= FD = 10.5 and y  = AB = 12.
