Dilation :

A dilation requires a center point C and a scale factor r. The figures show how dilations can result in a larger figure and a smaller figure than the original.

  • If |r| > 1, the dilation is an enlargement.
  • If 0 < |r| < 1, the dilation is a reduction.
  • If |r| = 1, the dilation is a congruence transformation.

Triangle A'B'D' is a dilation of ∆ ABD.

CA' = r(CA)
CB' = r(CB)
CD' = r(CD)

∆A'B'C' is a dilation of ∆ABC.

Let D be the center point.

Point B is 7 in. away from the center D that means DB = 7 inches.

Here scale factor is 1/4 It's a triangle, so ∆A'B'C' is smaller than ∆ABC.

DB' = r(DB) = (1/4)(7) = 1.75.

The distance between center D and point B' is 1.75 inches.
