Q) a ramp has equation 2x - y - 3z + 1, where the z-axis points vertically up. A chain is suspended from a point A with position vector (2,0,3), and just reaches the ramp

a) find a parametric equation of the line given by the chain

b) find the point of intersection of this line and the plane and hence determine the length of the chain

c) how far is A from the ramp?

 

Answers:

a) (2,0,3) + t(0,0,1)

b) (2,0,1) , 2

c) 6 / √14
