-4m + 1.8 = -4.2

Multiply each side by negative one

4m - 1.8 = 4.2

Add 1.8 to each side

4m - 1.8 + 1.8 = 4.2 + 1.8

Simplify

4m = 6.0

divide each side by 4

m = 6.0 / 4

m = 1.5 =3 / 2.

-4m + 1.8 = -4.2
subtraction property of equality if a = b then a - c = b - c
subtract 1.8 from each side
-4m + 1.8 -1.8 = -4.2 -1.8
-4m = -6.0
division property of equality if a = b then a /c = b / c (c not equal to 0)
divide each side by -4
m = 1.5
