The equation vx + w = 3

Subtract w from each side.

vx + w - w = 3 - w

vx = 3 - w

Divide each side by v.

vx/v = ( 3 - w)/v

Solution x = (3 - w)/v.

The equation 4w + vx = y2

Subtract 4w from each side.

4w - 4w + vx  = y2 - 4w

vx = y2 - 4w

Divide each side by v.

vx/v = (y2 - 4w)/v

Solution x = (y2 - 4w)/v.
