The expression is 3(x + y)² - 13(x + y) + 4.

By factoring by grouping.

3(x + y)² - 13(x + y) + 4

= 3(x + y)² - 12(x + y) - (x + y) + 4

= 3(x + y)[ x + y - 4 ] - 1[ x + y - 4 ]

= [ x + y - 4 ][ 3(x + y) - 1 ]

= [ x + y - 4 ][ 3x + 3y - 1 ].

Therefore, 3(x + y)² - 13(x + y) + 4 = [ x + y - 4 ][ 3x + 3y - 1 ].
